Having had a turbulent few days with twitter and now reading http://sethgodin.typepad.com/
latest post a few thoughts that have been floating through my thoughts over the last 6 months are beginning to come together and so I am going to attempt to put them down & into some coherent order.
I would like to clarify at this point I am a novice user of these apps so treat with care if you are reading this and thinking what a load of old CRAP please….
Twitter – you have a 140 characters inwhich to say something which can be fantastic and I love it for just making one liner comments and observations - however if you get sucked into trying to say or do more than this seriously I think you are entering a danger zone & i would strongly advice you to think twice! – it can cause serious misunderstandings & get you into lots of hot deep water!!!! how to make friends and alienate people…..
Personal Blogs lots of rantings by individuals and really who has the time or inclination to read them all – does this really matter – personally I think not – I like to think of my blogs as a diary and it is all in one place rather than taking up loads of paper that I then lose etc…. of course if you blog once or twice a year you run the risk of forgetting your login details and having to go through all that rigamoral. Again you can get into some serious misunderstandings and I think you only have to look at some of the blogs to what a mess and how much time people spend defending there thoughts and ideas…..
Social networking sites facebook well not to diss facebook as it has millions of users and i just heard Mark Zugerberg talk at FOWA but personally I just don’t get it – maybe there isn’t really a point to it and that is the beauty of it.
While we were at FOWA there were lots of amazing speakers giving their views on things it was a FANTASTIC time (I already have my ticket booked for next year ) …check out the videos if you missed the action http://events.carsonified.com/fowa/2008/london/content
BUT one of the points that a few of the speakers touched on in light of all this finacial crisis that we are in the mist of if the banks had been more open and maybe did there dirty washing on line as it were for all to see, and we could have DM the old bank manager or some of the other big players we would not be in this situation now – interesting thoughts – this leads me to the question of whether all this openness is going to come and if it does is it really going to help or if all it is going to do is make us all much more cautious of what we say / write and if people will actually put their name to it?
